IMRI
A 9,250SF neuro-surgery suite including an IMRIS intraoperative MRI. The first of its kind in the southeast, the IMRI is a highly technical imaging machine that required significant coordination with Steris, MEP, Hospital Facilities, and other consultants. The IMRI allows physicians to perform an MRI during surgery to confirm clean margins prior to closing up. The project scope included all required spaces for a stand-alone OR suite including a dedicated pre-op, PACU, physician lounge, lockers, and showers, equipment storage, clean and soiled supply, medication alcove, and dedicated central sterile and decontamination rooms. The suite has two dedicated ORs and one Diagnostic room that can all utilize the ceiling-mounted IMRI machine during surgical procedures.

CALLAHAN EYE HOSPITAL | 2ND FLOOR CLINIC
Renovation, after gutting part of the 2nd Floor of the Callahan Eye Hospital to create a new Eye Examination Suite. The project includes build-out of 16 exam rooms, waiting rooms, physician’s offices, contact lens fitting, and other support areas with new mechanical, fire sprinkler, and electrical infrastructure systems.

CALLAHAN EYE HOSPITAL 4TH FLOOR CLINIC
The 4th Floor Clinic was a complete renovation and expansion of an eye clinic for general patients as well as pediatric patients. The project was completed in two phases, starting with the general eye exam clinical area. Once space was available, the clinic was expanded to include a pediatric waiting area, pediatric exam rooms and other support space. The clinic centers around a shared check-in / check-out area, including surgery scheduling offices. The overall project includes 15 exam rooms, visual field rooms, imaging and support space.

CALLAHAN EYE HOSPITAL OR EXPANSION
The Callahan Eye Hospital Operating Room Expansion project is a 35,000 SF renovation of the existing hospital, including a new 8 room operating suite, pre-op suite, PACU suite, a 6-Bed inpatient unit, central sterile supply expansion, pharmacy relocation and expansion, and building system upgrades. Extensive planning and coordination were imperative for infection control measures to protect the day-to-day operations of the existing OR suite below and adjacent to the project area.

ALABAMA ORGAN CENTER
The Alabama Organ Center project consists of the construction of a new organ recovery center in the Hospital Support Building of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The Center includes two organ recovery rooms designed to comply with State Guidelines for operating rooms, two holding bays, a nurses station, equipment holding, call center, medical records, family waiting area, and coordinator/administrative offices.

SPAIN WALLACE LAB AUTOMATION
The Lab Automation project was a multi-phased renovation of University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital’s core laboratory and processing center. The main focus of the project was to renovate the existing space to install a new automated Beckman Coulter laboratory line. The installation of the automated line increased productivity and intake ability of the hospital lab. The project included new mechanical and electrical systems, upgrades to the fire alarm and plumbing systems, architectural reconfiguration including new offices and storage spaces, and a partner project to upgrade infrastructure including a new air handling unit, emergency power upgrades, and expansion of the pneumatic tube stations.

CARDIOPULMONARY CRITICAL CARE ICU
Creating a healing environment is the sum of many parts, including meeting the needs of the patient, patient family, hospital stakeholders and medical staff. UAB’s Cardiopulmonary Critical Care Intensive Care Unit (CPCC) on the 5th floor of the Medical Education is a comfortable, patient and patient family-focused unit that serves those on heart and/or lung bypass. The unit includes 9 ICU rooms, 10 ICU step-down rooms, a minor procedure room, and support spaces.
