The new Jefferson County Medical Examiner Building is a one-story, 32,000 square foot facility situated on a secluded nine-acre wooded site that provides enhanced privacy and restorative views of the surrounding natural landscape for the staff. The building utilizes concrete tilt-wall panels as its primary exterior structure, with a metal panel skin designed to blend into the environment by reflecting the color palette of the surrounding trees.
Completed: 2025
The facility is organized into three primary zones: the administrations / office area, the autopsy wing, and the sally port. The autopsy wing features a state-of-the-art autopsy suite supported by specialized spaces including a decomposition autopsy room, dedicated coolers for both standard and decomposition cases, a secure sally port drop-off, CT imaging room, specimen storage, and employee locker facilities. The thoughtful zoning and site placement support efficient operations, staff well-being, and the sensitive nature of the building's function.
