EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT EXPANSION
Located on the first floor of the Benjamin Russell Hospital, this project expanded the Emergency Department with an additional 16 rooms and support spaces. The expansion is planned to initially serve the ongoing rise in pediatric psychiatric patients, but treatment rooms are designed to meet requirements of a standard ED treatment room and can be used interchangeably. All rooms are designed with pediatric psychiatric patients in mind, including equipment and fixtures that limit ligature risks and tampering.

space. In addition to the 10,000 sf of newly renovated space, the project required tie-ins to one of the existing Inpatient units. The project floor to floor is a tight 10'- 5" on a floor above the existing Renal Care 8- bed Infusion area and below an Inpatient Unit, requiring very tight MEP coordination to ensure code compliant 7’- 6” ceiling heights and little to no disruption of the existing ongoing essential services above and below. BIM modeling was used for clash detection throughout the design process, ultimately reducing conflicts during construction. Poole & Company’s strong working relationship with our client and the general contractor, coupled with superb knowledge of the existing conditions, contributed to this project’s success.
PARK PLACE NORTH CLINIC
A fit-up of existing shell space, this new Children’s of Alabama respiratory therapy clinic adds 16 exam rooms, two treatment rooms, one therapy room, and support spaces. The planning considers future growth for 8 more exam rooms.
