UA PSYCHOLOGY BUILDING  |  TUSCALOOSA, AL

Poole & Company partnered with the University of Alabama to transform a vacant 30,000 square foot 1946 men’s dormitory on the historic Bryce campus into the new home of its Psychology Department. Through a comprehensive existing building assessment, our team addressed structural challenges, envelope performance, and accessibility concerns while honoring the integrity of the original architecture. A collaborative programming process revealed the need for an additional 20,000 square feet, allowing us to thoughtfully organize a state of the art auditorium classroom, highly sensitive clinical research environments, faculty offices, and dedicated student work areas.
The new addition reorients the building with a primary entrance that welcomes students from the main campus and frames a serene interior courtyard designed as a place of reflection and respite. A classical limestone portico anchors the façade, preserving historic character while meeting the University’s highest standards for authenticity. Architecture and interior space working in harmony.
Purpose driven design that supports discovery, learning, and well being.

Completed: 2025
