Project Description:
The Children’s of Alabama Child Psychiatry Center was a multi-phased project which included a complete renovation and fit-up for a 48,000 SF child psychiatry inpatient facility and outpatient clinic. The 34-Bed inpatient facility is consists of 3 separate nursing units for dividing the patients by age group, each of which includes a day space, team meeting / conference room, nurse touchdown station, seclusion, laundry and other staff support areas. Daytime activities are spent mostly in the classrooms and shared dining / occupational therapy rooms in a secured area near the units. A separate secured area for inpatient intake includes exam / treatment rooms, family interview rooms, testing, sensory room for occupational therapy and game room. The outpatient clinic consists of a waiting room, reception area, treatment room, consultation room, testing / observation rooms, conference room, and offices for the physicians, psychologists, therapists, social workers, educator, and other staff. The project included working within a fully-operational hospital with limited floor-to-floor heights and extensive integrated coordination with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and the construction team.
